Canton's Salata Crowned Champ at University Nationals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – King College was well represented at the 2012 University Nationals competition, held in Oklahoma City, Okla. over the weekend. Julia Salata took first place honors in the 72-kilogram division while nine of her teammates placed in the top-6 of their respective weight classes.
Salata, a freshman from Canton, Mich., defeated Oklahoma City University's Brittany Roberts (72kg/158.5 lb.) by decision. Salata controlled her opponent, taking away 4-1 and 2-0 decisions in the championship match. The Women's University Nationals is a qualifying event for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, set for Iowa City, Iowa, April 21-22. Champions at the four Olympic weight classes earned a spot in the field in Iowa City. Three of the four Olympic weight classes were won by athletes who were already qualified to compete in Iowa City (48 kg, 55 kg, 72 kg).
135lbs: Alec Pantaeleo (Canton), Sophomore: It is hard to believe that this weekend marked Alec Pantaeleo’s first time competing at the state meet. After being knocked out of regionals as a freshman, Pantaeleo was a man on a mission his sophomore year. He looked cool and confident in his debut at The Palace, winning an exciting finals bout against Malik Amine, the wrestler who eliminated him from regionals a year ago. Now with a state championship under his belt and two years of high school remaining, the future looks incredibly bright for this young grappler.
3/3/2012 - Please congratulate state placers Zach March - 7th Place at 145 lbs & Ben Griffin - 2nd Place at 112 lbs and 135 lbs State Champ Alec Pantaleo!

Canton's Abro Wins State Title at 189, Reaches 200 Wins
3/5/2011 - Courtesy of hometownlife.com
A perfect showing at the Division 1 individual state finals aptly capped off Canton senior Anthony Abro's perfect season and brilliant high school career.
The 189-pounder won the state title with a 3-1 decision Saturday over Novi-Detroit Catholic Central's Miles Trealout at The Palace of Auburn Hills, before an enthusiastic throng of Canton supporters.
For Abro, it was the third time this season that he bested Trealout, the most recent being a 5-3 win on Feb. 19 at the D1 individual regional finals. And the victory gave Abro a 60-0 record this season and 200 victories over his stellar four-year career with the Chiefs.
